What is So Special About These Brownies?

The banana is kind of this recipe’s secret weapon. It keeps the brownies so soft and chewy. The banana also gives them some sweetness, which is why it is important to unsweetened cocoa powder because the recipe already has ripe banana and calls for sugar.

My very favorite thing: the peanut butter! The peanut butter on top so strongly compliments the chocolate and banana. You really just can’t go wrong with this flavor combination, am I right?!

Don’t forget about those chocolate chips. No brownie recipe is complete without chocolate chips, chunks, or pieces.

Chocolate Chip Banana Brownies with a Peanut Butter Swirl
Prep Time
15 mins
Total Time
40 mins

Servings: 12 brownies
Ingredients
  • 2 Ripe Bananas
  • 2/3 cups Sugar
  • 1/2 cups Unsalted Butter (at room temp or heated for 10-15 seconds)
  • 2 tsp. Vanilla Extract
  • 3/4 cups Whole Wheat Flour (can substitute regular flour)
  • 1/4 cups Unsweetened Cocoa
  • 3/4 cups Dark or Milk Chocolate Chips
  • 1/2 cups Creamy Peanut Butter
Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

  2. Mash the bananas with a fork.

  3. With a hand mixer or standing mixer, beat the bananas, sugar, butter and vanilla extract until well incorporated.

  4. Using a whisk or whisk attachment, whisk in the whole wheat flour and cocoa power just until combined.

  5. Fold in the chocolate chips.

  6. Spread batter evenly in an 8×8 tin baking pan.

  7. Make 6 dollops of peanut butter on top of the brownies and swirl with a knife.

  8. Bake for 22-25 minutes, until a fork or toothpick can be poked into the brownies and come out relatively clean. Because the chocolate chips will melt slightly, poke the brownies in a few places and use your judgement.

  9. Let the brownies cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. This will help them not fall apart so easily. *Store in the refrigerator.
