Who has ever made their own DIY Exfoliating Lip Scrub? Raise your hand if you regularly exfoliate your lips…*crickets*…. anyone…. no? Yeah, me neither, but I have found it very helpful recently. This winter was so rough on my skin. I’m talking bleeding knuckles, cracked elbows and chapped lips! Literally the worst case of chapped lips I’ve ever had in my life. There’s the kicker- was. That was my problem, but isn’t an issue anymore.

Lip balm wasn’t helping enough, so I started looking up DIY exfoliating lip scrubs. I saw tons of recipes. I got a feel for how they were made and decided to create my own.

.

Honey, brown sugar, turbinado sugar and cinnamon each have their own unique properties:

  • Honey has antibacterial properties, which will give your lips a high quality clean. It also has healing properties that may help lessen inflammation. I suggest using raw honey because it is less processed; therefore, has the highest amount of nutrients and antioxidants. Read about other things you can do with honey here.
  • Brown sugar and turbinado sugar (less processed, larger grain than regular sugar) are great for exfoliating and turning over dead skin cells. Both have a large granule size, which is ideal because it is easier for skin to become irritated with finer granules. This is the turbinado sugar I usually have in my pantry.
  • Cinnamon is thought to stimulate circulation and plump your lips.

Even if the speculations about raw honey lessening inflammation and cinnamon increasing circulation are untrue, they are safe ingredients that you can feel good about using on your body! So safe and clean, you can just lick this Exfoliating Lip Scrub right off your lips… not speaking from experience or anything… or am I?!

Just a little fun fact for you, I’ve used this DIY Exfoliating Lip Scrub on my neck and arms and am loving the instant softness. You can definitely use this as a body scrub! DIY Exfoliating Lip Scrub
Prep Time
5 mins
Total Time
5 mins

Servings: 5 ounces by weight
Ingredients
  • 2 tbsp. Raw Honey
  • 1/3 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/3 cup Turbinado Sugar
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp. Ground Cinnamon
Instructions
  1. In a microwave-safe dish, warm the raw honey for 10 seconds. The goal is to make the honey softer so it can be easily incorporated with the other ingredients, but NOT to melt it.

  2. Add the brown sugar, turbinado sugar and cinnamon to the warm honey and mix until combined. ***If you do not have turbinado sugar, substitute with more brown sugar or regular white sugar. Avoid using superfine sugar as it can easily over exfoliate and irritate your lips.

  3. Store in an airtight contained at room temp or in the refrigerator. Makes about 5 ounces by weight.
